I can’t stress this enough: know your port numbers for the Tech+ exam. I had at least 4 direct questions about ports, and more where they were hidden inside scenarios.
Examples I saw:
- HTTPS = 443
- HTTP = 80
- FTP = 21
- DNS = 53
On my first PBQ, I had to block FTP traffic, and knowing port 21 saved me. Practicing with Tech+ practice tests drilled these into my brain until they were second nature.
Tips:
- Don’t try to memorize every port, focus on the common ones.
- Write them down on your scratch paper at the start of the exam.
- Drill them daily the week before test day.
Those few questions can make the difference between passing and failing.
