CompTIA Tech+ entry level IT

CompTIA Tech+ Certification

I took the CompTIA Tech+ exam because I wanted to break into entry-level IT. Coming from retail, I had no hands-on IT experience. Tech+ was perfect, it covers basics without being overwhelming.

The exam included topics like troubleshooting, security, databases, and programming concepts. At first, it felt like too much, but Tech+ practice tests made it manageable. By simulating the exam, they showed me exactly where I was weak (networking ports) and where I was strong (databases).

When I passed with a 700/900, it felt like a door opened. I started applying for IT support jobs and immediately got callbacks, employers recognized the cert as proof of foundational skills.

If you’re looking for your first IT role:

  • Tech+ is an affordable and achievable certification.
  • Use practice tests to build exam stamina.
  • Don’t skip security—those questions are everywhere.

It’s truly the best starting point I could’ve chosen.
