CompTIA Tech+ exam experience

CompTIA Tech+ Certification

Sitting for the CompTIA Tech+ exam was one of the most nerve-wracking but rewarding things I’ve done. I scheduled it at Pearson VUE, paid $135, and went in after two weeks of prep.

The exam had 75 questions in 60 minutes, with both multiple-choice and PBQs. My very first PBQ was about configuring a network switch. Later, I got questions on database basics, programming loops, and security essentials like multi-factor authentication.

The biggest thing that helped me? Practicing with Tech+ practice tests. They gave me a feel for how real questions are phrased, and by the time I sat for the exam, I wasn’t caught off guard.

My tips:

  • Expect PBQs at the start, they’re tougher than multiple-choice.
  • Don’t panic if you don’t know one flag it and return later.
  • Review acronyms and port numbers, they come up.

I finished with 8 minutes left and scored 710/900. It wasn’t easy, but preparation made all the difference.
